Prediction: The Green Bay Packers do not re-sign Rasul Douglas

My thought all offseason has been that the Green Bay Packers would find a way to re-sign either De’Vondre Campbell or Rasul Douglas–but not both. I chose Campbell because Spotrac projects his contract to be a few million cheaper than Douglas’, and without him, linebacker is incredibly thin, whereas the Packers still have Stokes and Alexander at cornerback.

Unfortunately, due to the Packers’ salary cap situation, these are the difficult decisions that have to be made. I think it’s safe to say we all want Douglas to return, but he is likely to get more money elsewhere as Lombardo’s report suggests.

This still leaves cornerback as a big need for Green Bay. They could turn to the draft and spend another early-round pick on the position. A few names to know include Andrew Booth, Trent McDuffie, Roger McCreary, and Kyler Gordon, among others.

I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Green Bay bring in a veteran via free agency who won’t break the bank–and actually, I think there is a lot of value in having that experience on this roster. A reunion with Chandon Sullivan makes a lot of sense as well.

Regardless of how they address cornerback, you get the idea. Depth at this position is a need this offseason, but unfortunately, I don’t think Douglas is going to be the one to provide that.
