Spotrac Projects Contracts for 5 Key Green Bay Packers Free Agents

Green Bay Packers Free Agent: Davante Adams
Spotract Market Value Projection: $25.8 million per year on a 5-year deal
Davante Adams wants to be the highest-paid receiver in football–something that he has certainly earned. I mean, the numbers speak for themselves. However, the big issue between him and Green Bay is in determining who the current highest-paid receiver in football is?
For Adams, he is likely looking at DeAndre Hopkins, who signed a two-year extension with Arizona worth $27.25 million per year. The Packers, on the other hand, are likely looking at Julio Jones’ final deal with Atlanta, where he signed a three-year extension that paid him $22 million per year.
Also, if you average out the $54.5 million in new money on Hopkins deal on top of the three-year contract he already had in place, his AAV with Arizona is actually $18.9 million.
This is likely why the reports we’ve heard suggest that Adams is looking for $30 million per year while Green Bay is in the $23-$25 million range. Both of which could make Adams the highest-paid receiver in football, depending on what your definition of that currently is.
The deadline to use the franchise tag is March 8th, and if the Packers do utilize it, it’s not because they expect Adams to play on that this season–and Adams might not even want to. But it would buy them more time to work out a long-term deal. And if nothing materializes, Green Bay could then always trade him.
