Green Bay Packers Extension Candidate: Adrian Amos

Adrian Amos puts the word “safe” in safety–he is about as reliable as they come at the position and overall has become one of the better safeties in football.

Amos has been incredibly durable during his time with the Packers, playing over 1,100 snaps in each of his first three seasons. His 1,101 snaps in 2021 were the most on the Packers defense and he also finished second in tackles with 93 and he had the sixth-lowest missed tackle rate among all safeties, according to PFF.

In coverage, quarterbacks completed just 57% of their passes against Amos and he gave up only 10.0 yards per reception while also coming away with three interceptions and seven pass breakups. Whether it be against the run or the pass, Amos always seems to be in the right place ready to make a play.

Amos is still just 28-years-old and as we look ahead to 2023, some question marks at the safety position here in Green Bay really start to rise. 2022 is the final year of Darnell Savage’s rookie deal and we do not know if he will be back next season. Not to mention that the depth chart behind Amos and Savage is filled with very little experience at the moment.

Extending Amos will keep one of the game’s best safeties in Green Bay beyond the 2022 season and also provide some needed stability to the safety position moving forward as well. Over the Cap projects that an extension for Amos will lower his nearly $12 million cap hit in 2022 by $5.1 million.
