Bold prediction for Packers’ wide receiver position this offseason: Davante Adams walks in free agency

If you couldn’t tell already, I was posturing towards a parting of ways between Adams and the Packers–thus the re-signing of Valdes-Scantling and drafting of a receiver in the first round.

The Packers would love to keep Adams around any way they can. The problem is, they would also love to keep Rasul Douglas, De’Vondre Campbell, Robert Tonyan, and Kevin King. Okay, maybe not that last one.

The Packers are not in a financial situation to be able to keep any of those players at this point, nonetheless, a guy who wants to get paid like the best wide receiver in the NFL that he is. The only way forward is through a possible Franchise Tag, but that will still be difficult for Green Bay to create cap space for. And Adams would be very upset. There are too many moving pieces for the Packers to both retain Adams and put out a well-rounded team on the field next season.
