Why the Green Bay Packers would let Chandon Sullivan go

A big factor in this decision very well could be how the team feels about Shemar Jean-Charles, a fifth-round rookie in 2021 who is expected to be a slot cornerback in the NFL.

We saw very little of Jean-Charles on defense to have any sort of idea of where he is at in his development, but at Appalachian State, he allowed only 16 receptions on 50 targets during his final season and just 10.8 yards per catch. He also recorded a whopping 16 pass breakups.

And while the stats on the previous page help illustrate the success that Sullivan has had, it’s not as if he hasn’t had his issues either. Opposing quarterbacks have honed in on Sullivan on numerous occasions and made it quite obvious they were going to go after him.

In eight out of the 17 regular-season games this past season, Sullivan was targeted at least five times. His 70 targets were the third most on the team in 2021, and he led the defense in targets in 2020. He allowed a catch rate of 70% in 2021, and there is the potential for an opposing receiver to have a big day–Sullivan gave up 87 yards, 98 yards, and 70 yards in three separate games last season.

Perhaps this leads to Green Bay looking elsewhere in an attempt to upgrade the position or to at least looking for a less expensive player to fill this role.
