Prediction: Marquez Valdes-Scantling doesn’t sign with Green Bay Packers

The wide receiver room is very thin right now for the Green Bay Packers, with Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling all free agents. With that, my prediction all offseason has been that the Packers will find a way to sign two of those three players.

Ultimately, I do believe that Aaron Rodgers returns, so that means Adams does as well, and my guess is that the Packers go with Lazard over MVS. Although each player is tasked with different responsibilities, Lazard’s production from game to game will be more consistent. He is also an excellent run-blocker, a very trusted third-down target, and if Spotrac’s projection is accurate, his contract for 2022 will be roughly half the cost of Valdes-Scantling’s.

Now, if Adams and Green Bay can’t come to an agreement on a new deal, then I do think MVS does return–so my prediction does hinge on that taking place.

But if Valdes-Scantling does sign elsewhere, it’s going to be incredibly important that this offense find a new true deep threat–whether that be via the draft or free agency. Yes, they need the big-play ability, but also for the reasons already mentioned in what that kind of speed can do for this offense and everyone else in it.
