Green Bay Packers Day Two Picks

Josh Myers

Josh Myers got off to a very promising start after being taken in the second round. Everyone in the organization, including Aaron Rodgers, spoke highly of his talent and professionalism. He was named the starting center at the beginning of the season and played well there for the first four games of the year, but then had an injury that kept him out until the final game of the regular season.

In that final game, he played just under half of the Green Bay Packers’ offensive snaps to ease him back. He then played in the Divisional Round against the 49ers two weeks later.

If Myers would’ve had a full season, it’s likely he would have continued to improve and been seen as one of the best offensive linemen in his rookie class. Unfortunately, injuries can hit anyone out of nowhere and it derailed most of his season.

Still, he did play well when he was in the game and could be a building block on this offensive line going forward.

Overall Grade: B-

Amari Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers finally drafted a wide receiver in an early-round! That was the sentiment on night two of the draft following the Amari Rodgers pick.

However, about three months later, the Packers traded for a familiar face in Randall Cobb to play in the slot and appease Aaron Rodgers. As a natural slot receiver without much potential on the outside due to his small frame, Amari Rodgers was pretty well blocked off from significant playing time by this move.

He only ended up catching four passes for 45 yards and running the ball once for 11 yards, but he also fumbled twice.

His punt and kick returning was also an interesting story. It was always an adventure with Rodgers back to return. Everyone held their breath each time he caught a punt or got hit, hoping he’d hold onto the ball. In terms of yards, though, his 8.3 yards per punt return was a respectable number, while his 19.1 yards per kick return were below average.

The Packers’ wide receiver room is essentially empty right now and Rodgers will need to do a lot of work this offseason to make himself into a potential high volume target if Green Bay can’t manage to get back some of their more important receivers due to the cap.

Overall Grade: D+
