The Green Bay Packers have a number of very difficult decisions to make before the 2022 offseason officially begins. And now that the Super Bowl is completed, they can get to work with those moves.

Green Bay must shave off $52 million before the start of the new NFL season in March and that’s just to get to a legal standing with their salary cap. If they want to make any other moves such as re-signing players or bringing in new guys, they’ll have to get even further under the cap to do so.

One tool the Packers have is to cut players outright. This will certainly add dead money to their cap, but it will provide some relief as well. Let’s check out the four most likely Packers to be cut.

These four members of the Green Bay Packers are most likely to be cut in order to get the team under the salary cap before the offseason begins.

Most likely Packers to be cut: Marcedes Lewis

This one stings more than most, as Marcedes Lewis has an emotional attachment with his teammates and fans. Known as the Big Dog, he’s been a great blocker for the Packers and has basically provided them with a sixth offensive lineman on the field who can also catch. The Packers have added younger and cheaper tight ends in recent years who could try to take his place (guys such as Dominque Dafney, Josiah Deguara and Tyler Davis).

By releasing him, the Packers will only save $2.45 million in 2022–a modest number by most accounts. However, Green Bay is going to have to work in the margins and that means letting a valuable player like Lewis walk away.
