Why the Green Bay Packers would keep Adrian Amos

Cap hit: $11.98 million

Steady, reliable, consistent–all of which describe Adrian Amos perfectly.

This past season, he was on the field for 1,101 snaps — the most on the Green Bay defense — and it was his fourth straight season with over 1,000 snaps. His 93 tackles were the second-most on the team, and his missed tackle rate was the sixth-lowest among all safeties.

In coverage, Amos would allow a completion rate of only 57 percent on 58 targets and just 10.0 yards per catch. He also recorded three interceptions, including one in the playoffs, seven pass breakups, and a passer rating of 86.1, according to PFF ($$).

You get the idea–and this level of play is nothing new to Amos as he has cemented himself as one of the best safeties in football. He always seems to be in the right place and making a play, seemingly every time.

In addition to what Amos brings to this defense, as I alluded to in the previous section, the depth at the safety position is very much an under-the-radar need for the Green Bay Packers. Darnell Savage is coming off a rough season, in which he was one of PFF’s lowest graded safeties, and he is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Not to mention that behind Amos and Savage on the depth chart are a lot of question marks.
