Prediction: The Green Bay Packers cut Billy Turner

Of the handful of players that I’ve discussed so far in this series, this prediction has been the most difficult to determine. Whether Turner plays out his current deal, is extended, restructured, or cut, I really wouldn’t be surprised by any move that Green Bay could make.

With that said, I am predicting that the Packers will move on from Turner. Look, I know I’ve already said it, but it’s true–difficult decisions will have to be made in order to clear cap space, and this is one of them. To a certain degree, it’s that simple.

As mentioned, Green Bay already has on the roster options to replace Turner. It remains to be seen if the Packers are willing to move Yosh Nijman to right tackle, but if they are, he had shown that he can be a capable left tackle — with some help — allowing three sacks and 20 pressures per PFF this past season. You would also expect Nijman to continue improving as well with more experience.

And when it comes to Jenkins, we know that wherever the Packers put him, he will be successful. It’s also worth noting that Brian Gutekunst and Co. have proven that they are very good at identifying and finding quality offensive linemen in the draft. So Green Bay could look there this offseason to bolster their overall tackle depth.

Again, this isn’t an easy decision, but with Jenkins and Nijman, along with Green Bay’s ability to find offensive linemen, I believe it’s one they can absorb.
