Packers who could be sleeper salary cap casualties: Marcedes Lewis

Cap Number: $4,525,000

Dead Money: $2,080,000

Cap Savings: $2,445,000

This would hurt emotionally as Marcedes Lewis has developed a special bond with his teammates and fans alike. That connection is obvious anytime he touches the ball when both fellow players and the fans start barking like crazy.

Lewis isn’t a game-breaker on offense, but he serves as an additional in-line blocker. He’s as good as it gets at the position and creates flexibility in both the passing and running game. That production won’t be easily replaced.

The Packers would save about $2.5 million by cutting him and turning over the reigns to guys like Josiah Deguara, Dominque Dafney, Tyler Davis and a potential draft pick. That’s not ideal, but money needs to be saved somewhere.
