Milwaukee Bucks Trade Rumors: In or out on Dennis Schröder?
The 2022 NBA Trade deadline is only a couple of days away and the chatter is heating up for the Milwaukee Bucks. Specifically when it comes to Boston Celtics’ guard Dennis Schröder.
Schröder has been identified by the media as one of Milwaukee’s primary targets this trade season. What could a potential deal between the two teams look like? Well, that depends on who else is involved and what the Celtics’ goal with a trade is.
However, there are conflicting reports about whether the two sides are even still discussing a deal.
There are conflicting reports out there about whether the Milwaukee Bucks are pursuing a trade for Boston Celtics’ guard Dennis Schröder.
On Sunday, Matt Moore of Action Network reported the Celtics had two offers on the table for Schröder: one from the Chicago Bulls and one from the Bucks. That led us to speculate what a potential deal could look like between the two teams.
Things change quickly with the rumor mill and sometimes reporters get outdated information. That could’ve been the case with Moore, as he reported the next day (Monday, February 7th) that the Bucks were no longer in discussions with the Celtics about a potential deal.
However, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report is saying Milwaukee is still pursuing a Schröder trade. He says the two sides are discussing Milwaukee sending Donte DiVincenzo in the deal and are asking for Grant Williams to be attached as well.
DiVincenzo is no stranger to trade rumors, as he was reportedly part of the botched Bogdan Bogdanovic deal and has been subject to whispers the entire season. He’s a restricted free agent following this season and Milwaukee just inked Grayson Allen to an extension. The two play the same position and it’s unclear if the Bucks’ ownership would want to pay both of them.
If the Bucks do get Williams as part of the deal, he would give them a smaller big who can potentially play the P.J. Tucker role from last season. Obviously, there’s no replacing Tucker’s defensive prowess and the Bucks have already tried (and failed) with Semi Ojeleye.
Williams has a $4.3 million team option for next year which would give Milwaukee another year of control. He’s having a career-year scoring the rock, as he’s drilling 42.8 percent of his threes and a 62.7 percent effective field goal percentage for 7.3 points per game–all career-highs.
Who knows what is actually going on with the Bucks’ front office. Following the Bogdanovic debacle, they’ve closed shop to any rumors coming out of their camp. With still a couple of days remaining until the trade deadline, we’ll continue to monitor the situation and see what potential deals the Bucks make.
