6 trades the Milwaukee Bucks could pull off before the deadline
By Todd Welter
With the limited resources the Bucks have to trade, it would be hard to see Milwaukee beating out the Chicago Bulls for, say, Jakob Poeltl from the Spurs–although San Antonio supposedly rejected the Bulls’ latest offer. The Milwaukee Bucks would have to put together a major trade package to get any of the two available big men from the Indiana Pacers.
Therefore, the Bucks will have to go bargain shopping. They are probably going to have package DiVincenzo and Nwora in any deal. By narrowing the focus to either getting just a big man or a wing defender, the Milwaukee Bucks could find some luxury tax savings. Bucks could then see what is available in the bought-out players market to address whatever position they do not acquire in a trade.
The Bucks could make these trades to land a big man. Draft picks would probably have to be worked out, but these ideas could be a framework toward landing a big man.
Milwaukee Bucks Trade scenario one
This trade works out more in the Kings’ favor. With DiVincenzo’s trade value not that great right now, the Bucks could help themselves by going back to the team that almost acquired him in the failed Bogdan Bogdanović trade.
Throwing in Nwora in this trade lowers the Bucks luxury tax bill in the spotrac.com trade simulator a bit.
Len provides depth at the five and is a veteran who can provide some decent minutes until Brook Lopez returns. Plus, he is a big body who might be able to provide some size in limited minutes in a playoff series against a team like the Brooklyn Nets.
The Bucks could also add another player and make a run for Tristian Thompson instead. However, with his age, Len might be the more sensible player to acquire.
Trade scenario two
The Milwaukee Bucks are waiting for Brook Lopez to return from back surgery. While they wait, the Bucks could turn to his brother Robin to take some minutes. In addition, the Bucks would get some luxury tax bill savings.
The Bucks know what the player they will be getting with Lopez as he was with the team two seasons ago.
The Orlando Magic get the rest of the season to see if Donte and Nwora can be long-term contributors as Orland rebuilds its roster.
Then again, the Bucks might be able to sign Lopez if the Magic buy out his contract.
Trade scenario three
Harrell is an undersized five–probably better suited at the four–but he finds his way to the basket. He is averaging just over 14 points per game. He is not a great three-point shooter. He can still provide scoring and that can help the second unit when Bobby Portis rests.
The Wizards, in return, would get two players who can help provide some floor spacing for Bradley Beal. Ojeyele has not been the defensive presence the Bucks hoped so maybe a change of scenery would help.
The Bucks get some scoring down low, and the Wizards get some pieces to stay in the play-in-round seeding games.
The Bucks luxury tax bill goes up with this trade.
