Packers guaranteed to be salary-cap casualties: Preston Smith

Cap Number: $19,720,588

Dead Money: $7,250,000

Cap Savings: $12,470,588

Preston Smith is another player who had a great 2021 campaign for the Packers. Following a down 2020 season, he bounced back in a major way and was great against the run and pass alike. A lot of that was due to his role under new defensive coordinator Joe Barry. He wasn’t asked to drop into coverage nearly as much and could focus on the line of scrimmage.

Smith will be a big loss for Green Bay, as he’s been as durable as they come since he arrived in Green Bay. He’s still a good player and will likely be able to get a nice contract elsewhere if he chooses.
