Green Bay Packers 2021 Season Review: Offensive Tackles
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers LT: Elgton Jenkins
With David Bakhtiari sidelined, the left tackle position belonged to Elgton Jenkins, and as you’d expect, he was very good at protecting Rodgers’ blindside.
Jenkins would start at left tackle Weeks 1 and 2 before missing some time with an injury. He was then back for Weeks 6 through 10 before tearing his ACL in Week 11 against Minnesota. Jenkins allowed only two sacks and 12 pressures over 306 pass-blocking snaps.
As we saw with Bakhtiari, it’s difficult to gauge when Jenkins will be back next season, but he is more than likely going to miss some time. When he does return, the Green Bay Packers will have some decisions to make when it comes to where he plays.
Does Jenkins slide back to left guard and Jon Runyan, who played well, might I add, heads back to the bench? Or perhaps Jenkins could be the team’s right tackle of the future, given the uncertainty around Turner’s contract?
2022 is also the final year of Jenkins’ rookie deal. While I don’t think an extension will be worked out this offseason, there really aren’t a ton of cap advantages to doing so at this time; perhaps Jenkins receives an extension during the season.
