Green Bay Packers Tackle Key Positional Needs in PFN 7 Round Mock Draft
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers third-round selection
Pick 92: Zachary Carter, IDL, Florida
Takeaway: Get Kenny Clark some help, am I right? But in all seriousness, the play along the interior defensive line this season was much better for the Green Bay Packers. Dean Lowry had his most productive season as a pass-rusher, and we saw flashes from Tyler Lancaster as well as TJ Slaton.
However, moving forward, there is the possibility that Lowry is a cap casualty, Kingsley Keke was of course cut late in the season, and Lancaster is an unrestricted free agent.
Outside of selecting Slaton in Round 5 last year, this is a position that the Packers haven’t put a ton of capital into recently. But it’s a position that you can never have too much depth at, and with the added uncertainty around several contracts, the interior defensive line once again should be a position that the Packers look to target early on.
The addition of Carter would bring added versatility to this defensive front. According to PFF ($$), 704 of his career snaps came lined up as an edge rusher, with another 404 over the tackle, and 473 from the B-gap. As Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network points out, he is effective against both the run and the pass. Over the last two seasons, Carter has tallied 62 pressures and 11 total sacks.
