Revisiting 10 Bold Predictions for Green Bay Packers 2021 Season
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers Bold Prediction No. 9: The offensive line unit isn’t as dominant
A: Correct
When I made this prediction, I certainly wasn’t anticipating the offensive line dealing with so many injuries. My reasoning behind this prediction was that the Green Bay Packers offensive line unit in 2020 was the best by several metrics, and I thought it might be difficult to repeat that performance.
With several injuries and movement along the offensive line, the Packers utilized seven different configurations this season. All things considered, this group held up very well, better than just about any other offensive line unit would if dealing with the same circumstances.
However, as impressive as this group was, they weren’t dominant–the run game was only okay while the quick passing game was Rodgers’ best friend as a way to get the ball out of his hands.
Bold Prediction No. 10: The Green Bay Packers win the Super Bowl
A: Very Wrong
Another Green Bay Packers season, another disappointing ending. The path to the Super Bowl once again went through Lambeau Field and was laid out for Green Bay, but in the biggest moment, two of their three units no-showed.
The special teams were a disaster as it had been all season long, and Rodgers had perhaps his worst performance of the season, abandoning the quick passing game and focusing heavily on Davante Adams. Meanwhile, Matt LaFleur’s play-calling became very bland and the offensive line also had their issues against the San Francisco defensive front.
