Green Bay Packers Quarterback: Kurt Benkert

Kurt Benkert was the Green Bay Packers’ third quarterback this season and spent all but one game on the practice squad. One of his primary responsibilities during the regular season was running the scout team offense each week for Green Bay’s starting defense.

Benkert made his regular-season debut in Week 14 against the Chicago Bears when Love was on the reserve/COVID list. He would back up Rodgers and ended up taking his first two NFL snaps with a pair of kneel-downs to end the game.

During the preseason, we saw flashes from Benkert, who showcased his arm talent as well as his ability to make plays on the move. According to PFF ($$), he finished the preseason completing 33 of his 48 pass attempts — or nearly 69 percent of them — at 6.3 yards per attempt with one touchdown and two interceptions over the three games.

Benkert was recently signed to a futures deal with Green Bay, meaning that he will be a part of the 90-man roster come training camp and the preseason. If both Rodgers and Love are back, Benkert is likely the favorite to be the third quarterback again.

However, if either Rodgers or Love is playing elsewhere, Benkert will have the opportunity to perhaps earn a much larger role this summer as the Green Bay Packers No. 2 quarterback heading into the 2022 regular season.
