Bold predictions for Packers’ offseason: Franchise tag Davante Adams

Adams reportedly wants $30 million a year on his next contract, but some of that is just his agent leaking stuff in the press to begin contract negotiations. Even if Adams is working off the DeAndre Hopkins model, he won’t get anywhere close to that. At least not from the Packers.

Green Bay will have a hard enough time getting under the cap, nonetheless coughing up another $20-25 million for Adams. However, they can franchise tag him to minimize that cost and buy them time to negotiate a deal with their stud wide receiver. That will give them more time to figure out their salary cap issues without risking losing Adams. Still, they’ll have to get far enough under the cap to do so first.
