Packers who disappointed in 2021 season: Darnell Savage

This is probably one of the most confounding and disappointing players on the Packers this season. Darnell Savage, who was in his third year after being a first-round pick out of Maryland in 2019, took huge strides over the second half of the 2020 season, but wasn’t able to replicate that throughout 2021.

His 58.4 grade via PFF was the lowest of his career and ranked 74th among 94 eligible safeties. It was his pass defense that took the biggest step back. He allowed 29 receptions on 44 targets (a catch-rate of 65.9 percent) for 395 yards and a whopping six touchdowns. All of those are career-worst numbers for him. He also had a career-high in penalties and a number of key dropped interceptions.

There’s still hope he can find another gear, but this was an extremely disappointing campaign for a player who hasn’t been able to live up to the hype in his short NFL career.
