Packers who may have played their final snap for Green Bay: Defensive Cap Casualties

Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Adrian Amos, Dean Lowry

Cutting a couple of these guys–namely Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith–is, perhaps, the clearest path to getting under the cap. Z. Smith had a heartfelt Instagram post following the game which indicates he likely knows he’s gone. With one year remaining on his contract, the Packers would eat $12.4 million by cutting him, but would save $15.3 million by doing so. P. Smith would save them another $12.5 million. Still, that wouldn’t be the only moves Green Bay would have to make.

Dean Lowry would be a tough pill to swallow. He was playing very well down the stretch and cutting him would be a huge loss for a defensive line that has struggled in recent years. However, the $3.9 million Green Bay would save in doing so might not be able to be overlooked.

Speaking of tough pills, I hope it doesn’t get this far but Adrian Amos could also be a cap casualty. The Packers would eat a nasty $7.3 million in doing so, but they might have to considering the $4.6 million it would save them. That would be a huge loss on and off the field.
