Green Bay Packers OL Decision No. 4: Billy Turner at RG

Given my last two responses, we already know the answer to this question, but I felt like I should still address it since one alternative that the Green Bay Packers have is to keep Kelly at right tackle and to move Turner back to right guard.

As just discussed, Turner has given Green Bay a reliable presence at right tackle not only for the 2021 season but also in 2020 as well. And to put it simply, Turner may just be a better tackle than a guard.

While I do want to point out that Turner did battle injuries during the 2019 season, his first in Green Bay, he struggled as the Packers’ right guard. According to PFF, Turner would allow nine sacks and 52 pressures–both of which were the most of his career, and the 52 pressures were the most allowed by any guard that season.

Now, this doesn’t mean that Turner couldn’t be moved inside and find some success, but Patrick’s 2020 season at right guard was more effective, and Turner has turned into a decent right tackle, so I just don’t see Green Bay making this big of a move heading into the playoffs.

Also, Turner has been practicing and playing at right tackle for the last two seasons; there’s certainly a lot more to making the move inside than just simply sliding over.

Verdict: Billy Turner will not start at right guard
