3 Packers in PFF’s Top 100 free agents in 2022
When the 2021 NFL season is completed and wrapped up in a bow, the Green Bay Packers will have plenty of questions to answer about their future. And many of those questions will be answered in free agency.
The Packers have one of the worst cap situations heading into next season, as they have the second-fewest cap space to work with. And when I say cap space, what I really mean is they have a ton of work to do just to get under the salary cap.
That will put them in a precarious position when it comes to re-signing their own players. However, we’ll save that problem for another day. For this article, let’s take a look at three players who found their way onto PFF’s top 100 ranking of upcoming free agents.
Before we dive right into the list, Rasul Douglas was oddly left off entirely. I figured he would have worked his way onto it at some point, but that wasn’t the case. Douglas, of course, was signed off the Arizona Cardinal’s practice squad this season and has been a godsend for Green Bay. He’s going to get a big payday in the offseason regardless of what PFF thinks!
Three members of the Green Bay Packers have found their way on PFF’s ranking of the 100 best players set to become free agents in 2022.
97. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
PFF predicts Marquez Valdes-Scantling will get a three-year, $25 million contract in the offseason. I could definitely see that as he has an untapped potential about him. I predicted he’d have a breakout 2021 campaign, but that never came to fruition. I could also see him signing a one-year prove-it deal in Green Bay to have another go-round at free agency in 2023.
27. De’Vondre Campbell
Campbell has come out of nowhere for the Packers and has established himself as one of the better inside linebackers in the NFL. He flies all over the field and is productive both against the run and in the passing game. He’ll definitely look to cash in on his monster season and it will have to be outside of Green Bay.
1. Davante Adams
Davante Adams is the best free agent to be and the Packers will desperately work to re-sign him. I’m not sure exactly how that would work considering the massive financial barriers Green Bay would have to work around, but the interest is definitely there. Adams wants to be paid like the top wide receiver he is and won’t have any issue getting that money from elsewhere if the Packers don’t pony up.
