Rasul Douglas has changed the Green Bay Packers season

As Aaron Rodgers has said in the past, how was Rasul Douglas just sitting on the Arizona practice squad?

The Green Bay Packers were Douglas’ fifth team just this season, and not only has he provided them with a steady presence at cornerback while Jaire Alexander is out, but he’s been a legitimate playmaker, and in Rodgers’ words, a “star.”

Since his first action as a Packer in Week 6 against Chicago, Douglas has been targeted 53 times and allowed a completion rate of just 52.8 percent, according to PFF ($$). He’s also allowed only 10.3 yards per catch with five pass breakups and now five interceptions, two of which went for six.

It’s one thing to lead the team in interceptions despite not making your debut until October, but what makes this run all the more impressive is just how crucial several of these interceptions have been to the win-loss column for Green Bay.

Now, of course, if Douglas doesn’t make those interceptions, we can really only speculate how each game would end, but in all likelihood, the Packers aren’t sitting at 12-3 right now.

Douglas’ interception in Arizona’s end zone came on second down and with 15 seconds left in the game. In the game against the Rams in which Green Bay would win by eight, Douglas returned an interception for a touchdown. And then on Saturday, with Cleveland nearing field goal range, Douglas intercepts Mayfield to secure another Packers’ win.

Again, maybe the outcomes stay the same — this is all just speculation — but odds are at least one is altered. And there’s also a not so unrealistic scenario where Green Bay could have lost all three games had they not had Douglas on the team, which instead would put them at 9-6 rather than their current 12-3.

"“Talk about an all-time pickup midseason. Rasul Douglas has changed our defense, changed our team,” said Rodgers via Packers Wire."
