Q: How will Dennis Kelly and the OL hold up for the Green Bay Packers?

A: Pretty good once again.

We really shouldn’t be surprised anymore, but despite missing four of their five preferred starters, the Green Bay Packers offensive line held their own once again. Maybe next week I won’t feel the need to ask this question again.

According to PFF ($$), the Green Bay offensive line would surrender only four pressures—a terrific performance. A week ago against the Chicago Bears, the Packers would allow only five pressures in that game.

When it comes to Dennis Kelly specifically, who was making his first start of 2021, he allowed two pressures, one of which was a sack, and was called for a penalty. For much of the game, Kelly was tasked with going up against Odafe Oweh, who leads the Ravens in pressures generated. It’s also worth noting that the interior offensive line didn’t have to contend with Calais Campbell either.

The run game averaged 3.8 yards per rush, but was effective enough and generated a few chunk runs between the tackles. Meanwhile, for the most part, Rodgers had the time that he needed in the pocket, with him being under pressure on only six of his drop backs.

The continued growth and improved play of Jon Runyan and Royce Newman at both guard positions are two big reasons why this offensive line unit continues to find success. Also, we will hopefully see David Bakhtiari and Josh Myers back in the mix at some point in the near future as well.
