With the MLB work stoppage officially in place as of December 1st, you won’t see any action from the Milwaukee Brewers or the rest of the league. That doesn’t mean we can’t speculate about what players they should go after when free agency resumes.

The Brewers have been unusually quiet over the first month or so of free agency and have yet to make any splash deals. Or at least until they struck a deal with the Boston Red Sox for outfielder Hunter Renfroe. Until then, their only real action of consequence was their inaction on free agent Avisail Garcia who signed a hefty contract with the Miami Marlins.

Brewers’ president David Stearns is always looking to find cost-effective ways to upgrade his team and he could pursue some of these non-tendered free agents when the MLB lockout ends.

When the MLB eventually returns from it’s work stoppage, the Milwaukee Brewers should take a look at these five non-tendered free agents.

Non-tendered free agents Brewers should pursue: Juan Minaya, RHP

The Minnesota Twins somewhat surprisingly decided not to tender relief pitcher Juan Minaya. Minaya was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training last year who had to scrape and claw his way to the big league roster where he eventually found success. In 40 innings in 2021, he had a 2.48 ERA to go along with 43 strikeouts.

The Brewers could be looking to revamp their bullpen depending on what happens with a potential Josh Hader trade. If they do move on from their stud closer, adding cheaper options like Minaya would be a godsend. At 31-years-old, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be able to duplicate his 2021 success with a team like the Brewers next season.
