Green Bay Packers v. Rams: 3 Big Things from Important Win
By Paul Bretl
The Green Bay Packers capitalize off turnovers
Following last week’s game against Minnesota, we could point to a few instances where Green Bay’s inability to capitalize on turnover opportunities very well may have been the difference in the game. But that was not the case this week.
During this past week, Rodgers had discussed how the offense was getting off to slower starts this season compared to 2020, but with some major help from the defense, Green Bay was able to score on two of their first three possessions.
On the Rams’ second drive of the game, Rashan Gary would get to Matthew Stafford and force a fumble that was recovered by Preston Smith. The Green Bay Packers’ offense would then go score a touchdown.
On LA’s following possession, they would go for it on 4th and 1 only to be stuffed by Adrian Amos on a terrific play where he filled the running lane. Green Bay would end up settling for a field goal, but it allowed them to begin the game with a 10-0 lead. And in both instances, the offense started with the ball on the Rams’ six-yard line and 29-yard line.
As the game progressed, Green Bay would capitalize on two more turnover opportunities. One came on a muffed punt by the Rams that led to three more points and then the pick-six by Rasul Douglas.
In a game where the Green Bay Packers put up 36 points and won by eight, they were able to force three turnovers and come away with 17 points. They also forced a turnover on downs in Rams’ territory that resulted in another field goal. So if my math is correct, that’s 20 points that the defense or special teams unit played a huge role in generating.
