Will Rashan Gary play for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday?

Somehow, someway, Rashan Gary was back at practice this week, and he is listed as questionable after suffering a gruesome-looking elbow injury against Seattle. Gary was a limited participant in practice all week, and if he does play, we will see him with a brace on.

The Green Bay Packers have been able to overcome not having Za’Darius Smith this season because of the high-level play from Gary. He has taken on a similar role, lining up in different gaps, and he’s been effective as a run defender as well. But where Gary has really made an impact is as a pass-rusher. According to PFF ($$), Gary ranks fifth in total pressures among edge rushers and third in quarterback hits.

There is no replacing Gary’s production, and if he can’t go, Green Bay will be relying much more heavily on 2020 seventh-round pick Jonathan Garvin and 2020 UDFA Tipa Galeai. Two players with a lot of potential, but two players who are still developing as well.

"“I don’t know Rashan’s body, but I know his will and his mind-set,” fellow outside linebacker Preston Smith said via Sports Illustrated. “He wants to do everything he can to get out on that field Sunday, and I’m pretty sure he’s been having a great rehab and great recovery, and he’s been feeling better each and every day. It’s a personal decision he has to make, and I would love to have him out there. I know his energy and his ability, and it would be great to have him out there alongside me and to have that guy on the defense.”"

Even if Gary is utilized in a limited capacity, his presence will be needed against a Minnesota passing attack that features Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen and a run game led by Dalvin Cook. Applying pressure to Kirk Cousins is going to be a must, and if Green Bay can do so, they may have a turnover opportunity as well.
