Wisconsin Football: 3 options to replace Chez Mellusi

The hits keep coming for the Wisconsin Football team’s running back room as head coach Paul Chryst announced starting running back Chez Mellusi will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a leg/knee injury against Rutgers on Saturday.
Mellusi isn’t the first running back the Badgers have lost this season–Jalen Berger was dismissed from the team and transferred and Isaac Guerendo is out for the year with an injury as well– but he may be the most important. Mellusi joined Wisconsin this season after transferring from Clemson and quickly earned the starting job. He ran for 815 yards and five touchdowns this year and was on pace to easily surpass the 1,000-yard mark.
That now marks the top three running backs on Wisconsin’s depth chart to start the season that are no longer able to play. How will the Badgers replace this huge loss? Let’s take a look at three options they have moving forward.
With Wisconsin Football’s starting running back Chez Mellusi out for the rest of the season with an injury, here are three ways the Badgers can replace him.
Options for Wisconsin Football to replace Chez Mellusi: Julius Davis
Julius Davis got his first game action of the season a week ago when he carried the rock seven times for 42 yards in a blowout win over Rutgers. Davis may have dropped to sixth on the depth chart this season, but he never stopped grinding. That work ethic is part of what made him a favorite of his Badgers’ teammates.
Chryst and running backs coach Gary Brown are also high on Davis. They believe he has a strong grasp of the playbook and are excited to see what he can do. Davis will play second-fiddle to the next guy on this list, but there are plenty of carries to go around for the Badgers.
