Milwaukee Brewers best-case free agents to target: Anthony Rizzo, 1B
There aren’t many elite first basemen available in free agency this year and I’m not sure Anthony Rizzo fits that bill either. Rizzo was traded by the rebuilding Chicago Cubs last season and ended up hitting .248 with a .344 on-base percentage in total.
At 32-years-old, he’s still a solid player, but not nearly the guy he once was. This will help keep the price and years of his deal lower for the Brewers if they pursue him. He’d be an upgrade defensively over what Milwaukee has if they value that type of thing. It would be cheaper to roll with the trio of Hiura-Tellez-Vogelbach, but Rizzo would be the best of all of them into one.
