After holding the NFL world hostage around the time of the 2021 NFL Draft and throughout various points of the summer, the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers were back on center stage Wednesday when it was reported the reigning MVP tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday’s showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The initial announcement that he’s a forgone conclusion to miss the game caused some confusion amongst analysts, but more details continued to break as the day went on. Let’s review five things you should know about this fiasco.

With Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers testing positive for COVID-19, here are five things you should know.

Packers, Aaron Rodgers, and COVID-19: Rodgers tested positive Wednesday morning

We might as well start at the beginning. It was announced Wednesday morning that Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19. This was following an apparent Halloween party he was at over the weekend and third-string quarterback Kurt Benkert testing positive earlier in the week as well. Cornerback Isaac Yiadom was also announced to be in the COVID-19 protocols later in the afternoon.

Although we don’t know much about the timing of the positive test, head coach Matt LaFleur, who did speak with the media on Wednesday, said he found out Wednesday morning before going into team meetings about Rodgers’ positive test. That means Jordan Love will start on Sunday if he doesn’t test positive and Green Bay is reportedly bringing back Blake Bortles for insurance purposes.
