It might be odd to declare a Week 7 game a must-win contest for a 5-1 team, but that’s exactly what this is for the Green Bay Packers.

They host the Washington Football Team on Sunday, a less than stellar collection of talent who has stumbled their way 2-4. Washington’s injury list is, perhaps, as long as Green Bay’s but they expect to get back most of their quality talent back this week. That includes starting running back Antonio Gibson and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

McLaurin, in particular, presents a problem for Green Bay’s depleted secondary. The Packers are without star cornerback Jaire Alexander who would be a perfect match for McLaurin this week. Furthermore, they might also be without their other starting corner in Kevin King.

That would leave rookie Erik Stokes who has been solid, but imperfect so far this season. Even worse, guys like Isaac Yiadom, Chandon Sullivan, and Rasul Douglas will be asked to play major roles as well.

Despite having a 5-1 record to begin the season, the Green Bay Packers must defeat the Washington Football team on Sunday.

Chances are the Packers will survive Sunday’s game against Washington and exit with a 6-1 record to remain atop the NFC North and near the top of the NFC standings. However, their schedule is about to turn for the worse. Much worse.

Beginning next week, the Packers will face a gauntlet of the NFL’s best teams.

They’ll travel to Arizona on a short week and play against the currently undefeated Cardinals on Thursday. Arizona is led by MVP candidate Kyler Murray and a passing attack that could exploit Green Bay’s weak secondary.

Green Bay stays on the road following a mini-bye when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead stadium. Although the Chiefs are struggling right now, it’s only a matter of time until they get it together and start stringing together wins.

After that, they return home to face the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle is currently without star quarterback Russell Wilson, but Wilson is expected to return from injury about that time.

The schedule doesn’t lighten up for three more weeks, as the Packers play at the Minnesota Vikings and host the Los Angeles Rams before the bye. It’s perfectly conceivable that, even with a win against Washington, the Packers enter their off week with a 7-5 record.

The Packers’ schedule gets a bit easier after their bye, but not by much. They host the Chicago Bears, before traveling to Baltimore to play the currently 5-1 Ravens, hosting the 4-3 Cleveland Browns and then finishing with a pair of divisional games against the Vikings and Detroit Lions.

Next. 4 positions Packers should target at trade deadline. dark

What I’m trying to say is Green Bay better take advantage of this easy part of their schedule and rack up as many victories as possible. They’re going to need them later.
