Packers who have exceeded expectations: Jon Runyan

Getting back to the offensive line, Jon Runyan has been a major contributor up front. Entering his second year, he’s the veteran on the interior, playing next to rookie center Josh Myers and rookie right guard Royce Newman.

Through five games, Runyan’s PFF grade of 68.3 is solid enough and ranks 24th out of 74 eligible guards this year. He’s excelled in pass protection where he’s given up just six pressures in 145 pass-blocking opportunities, including zero sacks. Meanwhile, his run-blocking has been sufficient enough.

When Bakhtiari returns sometime around Week 7, Green Bay will have some difficult decisions to make up front. Will Jenkins return to his left guard spot, and, if so, where does that leave Runyan? At this point, he’s made a strong case to slide over to right guard and continue starting.
