Green Bay Packers v. Bengals: 6 Big Questions Ahead of Matchup
By Paul Bretl
Will Joe Mixon Play?
Joe Mixon did not practice at all this week with an ankle injury. Typically when a player misses all three practices, they are often out for the upcoming game. Mixon, however, is listed as questionable.
Whether he plays or not will have a huge effect on this game, as I’m sure you can imagine. He is a focal point within this Bengals offense having totaled 83 rushing attempts this season, the second-most in the NFL, behind only Derrick Henry. The only other running back on the team with any carries this season is Samaje Perine with nine.
Will the Green Bay Packers field goal unit be better?
If you recall on Mason Crosby’s game-winner against San Francisco, the kick was actually almost blocked. Then last week against Pittsburgh, the Steelers did block a field goal attempt, but it was called back due to a penalty, and they got close again later in the game.
What teams are doing is they are loading up the right side, forcing Robert Tonyan to have to block two players. Green Bay’s snap signal has also become predictable as well.
Special teams coach Maurice Drayton was asked about that this week, and he told reporters that the issue should be resolved:
"“We do realize we’ve had some things going on,” Drayton said via Sports Illustrated. “Obviously, I’ll take full responsibility for that. Should have made some in-game adjustments and we did not do it fast enough. But isn’t it awesome when things can occur and guys are able to see it and it actually didn’t hurt you? It was a teachable moment, a learnable moment for everyone on that unit, so it was kind of an ‘ah’ moment, where the guys were like, ‘Wow. This is what coach was talking about.’ And it’s fixed.”"
We will see on Sunday if that’s actually the case.
