Packers stock market: Bounce-back performances trending up in Week 3
Trending up: Eric Stokes, Jon Runyan Jr., Aaron Jones, offensive patience, Corey Bojorquez, special teams, Randall Cobb, De’Vondre Campbell
Eric Stokes: The rookie cornerback earns his first trending up of the season. He was targeted four times and only gave up one reception for five yards and a touchdown. It came on a miscommunication in the redzone where he went with his guy instead of switching to the man on the outside. He did record two of the team’s three pass break-ups.
Jon Runyan got the start at left guard after Lucas Patrick suffered a concussion late last week. He held his own and was objectively better than Patrick was. Matt LaFleur wouldn’t comment on who the starter will be going forward, but it will be hard not to be Runyan after that performance.
Aaron Jones tied a bunch of records with his four-touchdown performance against the Lions. It’s clear the offense is much better when he’s involved in every facet.
Offensive patience: There was a lot of talking heading into the game about how teams were going to play a two-high safety look against Green Bay in order to take away their deep passing game. This means the Packers would have to stick with the run and short passing game–a challenging aspect for a quarterback and team who wants to air it out. They did a nice job in this contest, however, and it lead to 35 points.
Corey Bojorquez has shown amazing directional punting through two weeks in Green Bay. He consistently puts the ball near the sideline and inside the 20-yard line.
Special Teams: Sticking with special teams, the unit as a whole had one of their better games in the last two years. They did allow a big return, but had a couple of big returns of their own. This improvement from Week 1 will be worth monitoring moving forward.
Randall Cobb made his presence felt for the first time this year when he caught all three of his targets for 26 yards.
De’Vondre Campbell had a nice game, recording 10 total tackles and five stops. He was the Packers’ second-highest graded player in the game according to PFF.
