5-minute guide to Packers-Lions Week 2: Predictions, injuries, etc
The Dairyland Express staff work diligently every week to cover the Green Bay Packers from just about every angle imaginable. I’ve compiled all the coverage heading into the Packers’ Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions.
Following an abysmal Week 1 performance against the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay is looking to get back on track against a division rival that’s given them fits over the last few years. Thanks to these three keys, Green Bay hopes to get their first victory of the season.
In order to do so, they’ll have to have better success in the passing game. Aaron Rodgers wasn’t able to get anything going with his wide receivers and will have to this time around. The Lions’ secondary is atrocious and they’re missing their best cornerback to boot. that should equal a successful equation for the Packers.
With the Green Bay Packers taking on the Detroit Lions in Week 2, here’s everything you need to know about the game in just five minutes.
Speaking of injuries, the Lions will also be without defensive end Kevin Strong and wide receiver Tyrell Williams. Meanwhile, defensive end Michael Brockers, outside linebacker Trey Flowers, wide receiver Kalif Raymond and running back D’Andre Swift are all questionable. Swift is the big one for the Lions and if he’s out we could see a bunch of former Packers’ running back Jamaal Williams.
Green Bay has major issues at safety. Vernon Scott has already been ruled out for the second straight week. Unfortunately, Darnell Savage has been added to the injury report following his early departure against the Saints. He’s listed as questionable. Lucas Patrick is also questionable and tight end Josiah Deguara is doubtful.
It was also reported this week that the Packers have called around about linebackers. With Za’Darius Smith going on the injured reserve due to his back, it’s possible they were looking for edge rushers. What’s more probable, however, is that they’re seeking an inside linebacker. Fortunately, there are a few linebackers available who could help Green Bay’s situation.
The good news is the Lions are the perfect opponent to build some momentum against. At 0-1 and with a game against the San Francisco 49ers staring Green Bay straight in the face following a short week, the Packers absolutely need this one. Paul Bretl brings reason for optimism in his prediction column this week.
Make sure you tune into Monday Night Football to watch the Packers play under the lights of Lambeau field. It doesn’t get much better than this.
