Packers’ rookie class bold prediction: Royce Newman will earn PFF’s All-Rookie Team honors.

Royce Newman has already come out of nowhere to earn a starting spot at right guard for Green Bay. His first challenge is to prove he deserves to stay at guard by the time David Bakhtiari returns and kicks either Elgton Jenkins or Billy Turner back inside. After he does that, he’ll earn a spot on PFF’s All-Rookie team at guard. Newman looks to be a steal in the fourth round and could be another huge get for general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Packers’ rookie class bold prediction: Amari Rodgers will overtake Randall Cobb on the depth chart.

The Packers muddied their wide receiver room when they acquired Randall Cobb in the preseason. It made it especially complicating for third-round pick Amari Rodgers who has largely the same skill set as Cobb–a dynamic player who can line up all over the field, especially in the slot and the backfield. As of now, Cobb is ahead of Rodgers on the depth chart. Expect that to change as the season goes on and the rookie gets his feet under him.

Packers’ rookie class bold prediction: Josh Myers will give up fewer than three sacks.

Josh Myers is the other rookie starter entering Week 1 and just so happens to be along the offensive line as well. Although he was basically handed the starting job from the beginning, he went out and proved himself. He’s got some work to do on the field, especially being sandwiched by two somewhat questionable guards in Newman and Lucas Patrick. He’ll prove he’s a quick learner and hit his stride early, resulting in him giving up three or fewer sacks in his rookie year.
