Packers’ surprise on 53-man roster: Trading for new punter

The Packers surprisingly took JK Scott in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft–an unwise move even at the time. When you use a draft pick on a punter, you expect him to do great things. Unfortunately, Scott wasn’t even able to finish his rookie contract in Green Bay.

He was waived on Tuesday, as Green Bay acquired Corey Bojorquez from the Los Angeles Rams. The Packers sent a 2023 sixth-round pick in exchange for Bojorquez and a 2023 and seventh-rounder. Not bad, Gutey.

Bojorquez is a clear upgrade over Scott and one they desperately needed. Scott was maddeningly inconsistent throughout his tenure and seemed to get worse as the weather turned. They’ll try to continue to improve their special teams with the acquisition of a brand new specialist.
