Packers bold prediction for final roster: Keep five outside linebackers to begin the season

Za’Darius Smith, the Packers’ star outside linebacker, has yet to practice this summer due to a back injury. His status for the season-opener (and beyond) is unknown which could put his immediate future in jeopardy.

That will force the Packers to keep a fifth outside linebacker to begin the season, a decision further complicated by Randy Ramsey’s season-ending injury. With Smith, Preston Smith and Rashan Gary locks for the roster, that leaves two open spots. Jonathan Garvin is a strong candidate to be the fourth. Chauncey Rivers has the lead on the fifth spot, but it’s also possible they claim someone off waivers to be the fifth.
