Packers bold prediction for final roster: Release Jace Sternberger outright

It’s been a long, hard fall for former third-round pick Jace Sternberger. He’s always showed some promise as a dangerous receiving tight end, but has never been able to put it all together. Or even much of it.

The Packers’ coaching staff has been transparent with Sternberger’s lack of knowledge of the playbook despite entering his third professional season with the same team and offense. He’s also struggled to produce on the field when given the opportunity and was clearly tight end five last season.

This year, the Packers don’t have a need for five tight ends. Despite Sternberger having to serve a two-game suspension to start the season–which means Green Bay could keep him around and make a decision in Week 3–they’ll release him outright and not waste anybody’s time. They’ve made their decision and it’s time for both parties to move on.
