Predicting 3 Packers who could make first Pro Bowl in 2021 season
1. Robert Tonyan
Robert Tonyan’s experienced a meteoric rise in the NFL in just a very short time. An undrafted free agent out of little Indiana State, he was signed to the Detroit Lions in 2017 before being cut in September. The Packers then picked him up for their practice squad in December of that year and he’s been turning heads ever since.
Tonyan signed a future contract with Green Bay in January of 2018 and hasn’t looked back. After catching just a combined 14 receptions for 177 yards in 2018 and 2019, he exploded last year. He beat out Jace Sternberger as the team’s leading tight end and finished the season with 52 receptions for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns.
After making a strong case for the Pro Bowl and failing to make it in 2020, this year could be his time. Sometimes it takes voters a year or two to get caught up to how good a player actually is. If he can put up similar numbers to a year ago, the voters could reward his two-year body of work with his first Pro Bowl appearance.
