Packers: 4 most important positional battles in preseason opener vs. Texans
1. Wide receiver battle
The Packers’ first five wide receivers are locked into roster spots, but there’s a very good chance they will keep six heading into the beginning of the season. The primary guys to watch in this battle are Devin Funchess and Juwan Winfree. However, don’t sleep on Malik Taylor or even Reggie Begelton.
Funchess is the most accomplished receiver of the group, but hasn’t been impressive in camp so far. He’s experimenting on special teams, as that will be a requirement of the sixth receiver. Speaking of special teams, that’s the reason Taylor was on the squad last year. He’s probably the least impressive natural receiver of these players, but Green Bay doesn’t need another pass-catcher considering the gluttony of weapons ahead already on the roster. That may make it difficult for Winfree who has been impressive in that category. He’s shown the ability to create separation and great hands. Last, but not least, is Begelton. Begelton and Jordan Love have great chemistry. With Love playing the majority of the game, don’t be surprised if these two have a big game together.
