Equanimeous St. Brown

The battle for the sixth receiver spot — and who knows, maybe the Packers only keep five — is wide open, but Equanimeous St. Brown hasn’t left his mark quite like some others have.

He’s made a few nice receptions, but Devin Funchess has been the more impressive pass-catcher, as has Juwann Winfree, who also provides special teams help—something that St. Brown has not done during his career.

It’s been a quiet camp for Malik Taylor as well on the receiving front, but with 210 special teams snaps in 2020, he has the most special teams experience of this aforementioned group.

If the Green Bay Packers keep six receivers, that final spot will likely go to one of these four players, and currently, I’d put St. Brown no better than third in these rankings –behind Funchess and Winfree — and likely fourth unless he can show that he can contribute to special teams.

Kamal Martin

Expectations were high for Kamal Martin entering this year’s training camp after he had shown some real flashes last year as a rookie and possesses that playmaking ability. Yet even before he got hurt, it was pretty well defined early on that the top-2 linebackers were going to be De’Vondre Campbell and Krys Barnes.

We even saw Green Bay move Martin to edge rusher for some reps, similarly to what they did with Oren Burks last season–so I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

But unfortunately, Martin has now been injured as well and is missing some very valuable practice time, especially for a young player who is trying to solidify his role. In his absence, Ty Summers and Oren Burks — two more experienced players and two of the better special teams players — have been the second linebacker group behind Campbell and Barnes.

If Martin can return to the field soon and doesn’t have to go on IR, his roster spot won’t be in jeopardy like Redmond’s could be, but his playing time certainly is.
