4 potential Packers trade candidates entering 2021 preseason
2. Lucas Patrick
Lucas Patrick would be a surprise trade if the Packers made the move this preseason. After starting 15 games a year ago, he’s one of the favorites to lock in a starting position once again in 2021. Even if he doesn’t earn the starting nod, he’d be a valuable lineman who can move all over the interior.
If Green Bay would move on from him, it would mean that youngsters Jon Runyan Jr. and Ben Braden outplayed Patrick and earned a job. All three guys are in the two-man race to start at left and right guard to begin the season. (That will all change once All Pro David Bakhtiari returns to his natural position of left tackle and kicks either Elgton Jenkins or Billy Turner inside). It would also mean the move is motivated by money, as Green Bay could save about $2 million off their cap if they rid themselves of Patrick’s contract.
