4 potential Packers trade candidates entering 2021 preseason
Green Bay Packers‘ general manager Brian Gutekunst has proven he’s willing to improve the roster any chance he gets. He’s taken risks in free agency (most of which have panned out), risks in the draft (some of his biggest are still up in the air), and risks in the players he’s acquired.
Another move, with the Packers being all in for the 2021 season, he could make is to trade away a veteran for some much-needed cap relief or additional draft picks.
Green Bay has acquired a lot of talent over the years and probably has too many NFL-quality players than their roster will allow. That makes these four players trade candidates at some point in the preseason.
These four members of the Green Bay Packers could be traded away sometime during or immediately following the 2021 preseason.
4. Jace Sternberger
The Packers have too many tight ends on their roster than spots available. Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, and Josiah Deguara are likely locks for the roster. Dominique Dafney also has a strong case after showing off his blocking prowess down the stretch of last season. That could leave former third-round pick, Jace Sternberger, on the outside looking in.
It’s been all downhill for Sternberger since his rookie year and he found himself a healthy inactive more often than not toward the end of last season. He’s got good skills after the catch and could entice some tight end needy team that he just needs more time in the NFL. If Green Bay feels they can move on from him, don’t be surprised to see him shipped for a mid to late round pick.
