Green Bay Packers: Revised Final 53-Man Roster Prediction
By Paul Bretl
Cornerback (6): Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Eric Stokes, Chandon Sullivan, Shemar Jean-Charles, Kabion Ento
Previous prediction (6): Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Eric Stokes, Chandon Sullivan, Shemar Jean-Charles, Kabion Ento
Chandon Sullivan has been the primary ‘star’ cornerback over the last week—so he is a lock. And while I don’t anticipate that we see much of Shemar Jean-Charles on defense this season, he can be an immediate help on special teams.
As I’ve discussed in the past, it’s clear that the Green Bay Packers like Kabion Ento as they put him on the initial roster last season before ultimately placing him on IR—this allowed Ento the option to return once healthy. He’s also someone who can help on special teams — again, very important for the back-end of the roster players — and he has made a few plays in camp.
For Josh Jackson, it’s really now or never, and with King sidelined, he’s getting some run with the 1s. However, the same issues that plagued him as a rookie are still prevalent. Ka’dar Hollman is on the outside looking in as well—we just haven’t seen enough from him during his time in Green Bay.
Safety (5): Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Henry Black, Vernon Scott, Will Redmond
Previous prediction (5): Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Henry Black, Vernon Scott, Will Redmond
I still have the same group of safeties as I did initially, although it’s worth noting that Henry Black has been the primary dime safety next to Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage. I like Vernon Scott’s fit in this defense, and even though Will Redmond is yet to play due to an injury, I ultimately think he makes the roster for his special teams play.
One name that I left off is UDFA Christian Uphoff, who is on the radar of many fans. I won’t be surprised if he’s on the active roster at some point this season, but with only one season of college football under his belt and a year away in 2020 due to the Missouri Valley Football Conference canceling their season, some time on the practice squad could do him well.
Specialists (3): Mason Crosby, JK Scott, Hunter Bradley
Previous prediction (3): Mason Crosby, JK Scott, Hunter Bradley
As I said originally, yes, there is competition in camp for both JK Scott and Hunter Bradley, but until I see or hear otherwise, I expect both to make the roster.
