The pads won’t come on until Tuesday, but the Green Bay Packers already have nearly a week’s worth of training camp practices under their belt. And just like every other year, there are players well ahead of the pack in terms of preparedness.

In general, it appears the offense has given the defense more than their fair share of beatdowns in the early going. That’s probably to be expected considering the offense is in Year 3 under Matt LaFleur and the defense is still adjusting to new coordinator Joe Barry. Also, the defense is missing a couple of key players where the offense is completely healthy.

With all of that in mind, here are six players who are off to a great start in the first week of camp.

These six members of the Green Bay Packers started training camp off on the right foot by having a great first week of practice.

6. Juwann Winfree

The wide receiver position is stacked and it’s going to be very difficult for Juwann Winfree to make the squad. However, he’s hard to ignore at this point. He’s a bit undersized, but has mastered route-running and has been able to get open consistently so far. He’s also shown very good hands and is earning trust with his quarterbacks. It remains to be seen if he can make the final roster, but he’s off to a great start.

5. TJ Slaton

Green Bay is going to need to find consistent producers along their defensive line this season. Dean Lowry and Tyler Lancaster have been extremely inconsistent and there is playing time available for the taking. TJ Slaton could carve out a role on early downs. He’s a HUGE dude who is able to hold his spot against single and double teams. If he can free up some blockers for his teammates, Slaton could find himself on the field on running downs.

4. Elgton Jenkins

With David Bakhtiari out, Elgton Jenkins is clearly the Packers’ best offensive lineman. He appears to have taken another step forward this season and can play all over the line. He’s one of their best options at just about every position and he’ll be a stud no matter where the line him up.

3. Josh Meyers

Sticking with the offensive line, Josh Meyers has commanded the center position, unlike the rookie he is. He confidently makes adjustments and calls to his veteran teammates and it appears he’s been doing this for years. That’s huge considering the hole Corey Linsley left at the position and the bar he set. We’ll see how Meyers does when the pads come on, but he’s off to a great start.

2. Davante Adams

Davante Adams has continued to assert his dominance in practice and has made a number of cornerbacks look silly along the way. He’s been making huge plays almost every day and is nearly unguardable if you’re name isn’t Jaire Alexander. He’s in line for another monster season.

1. Aaron Rodgers

The guy on the other end of those throws has been Aaron Rodgers. He hasn’t missed a beat after all his offseason drama. Rodgers is slinging the rock all over the field and coaching up his teammates with ease. He looks like his MVP self and seems 100 percent motivated.
