Ben Braden – OL

Now 27-years-old, Ben Braden has primarily been a practice squad player during his NFL career, and he is someone who honestly wouldn’t have been on my radar without some recent comments from offensive line coach Adam Stenavich–in fact, I would have thought that Braden was a cut candidate.

During mini-camp, when speaking with reporters, Stenavich mentioned that he believes that Braden can compete for starting reps at both guard and tackle–certainly high praise for someone who has been on the practice squad for several years. We will have to see if Braden can live up to that hype, but those comments alone get him placed on this list.

Coy Cronk – OT

Coy Cronk was signed as an undrafted rookie after this year’s draft and comes from Indiana and Iowa as a very experienced player with nearly 3,000 career snaps over five college seasons. He spent his first four seasons at left tackle and his fifth year with Iowa at right tackle. However, Cronk has battled injuries the past two seasons, which could hold him back, but if he’s able to regain his past form, one NFL scout is very high on the former Hoosier:

"“I love Coy,” one scout told Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated. “If Coy can get healthy and get back to where he was playing before the ankle injury in 2019, then he may be the steal of the college free agency class across the board. “He’s got starting ability, absolutely.”"

Although the Green Bay Packers have several options as backup tackles, the only true offensive tackles on this roster are David Bakhtiari and Yosh Nijman. Perhaps the current roster construction allows Cronk to wiggle his way onto the roster.
