4. Bucks re-sign P.J. Tucker

Unlike Portis or Forbes, the Bucks own PJ Tucker’s bird rights. That means they can go over the salary cap to re-sign him and they don’t have to abide by the taxpayer midlevel exception rules.

Tucker earned $7.9 million last year and Milwaukee could sign him to a two-year deal worth around $8 million annually. That may seem like a bit of a risky move for someone who just turned 36-years-old, but the Bucks don’t have other options. This is one of their only paths to retaining talent from their championship team.

Tucker was an elite defensive contributor, taking over in the starting lineup once Donte DiVincenzo went down with an injury. He was able to guard players from Kevin Durant to Trae Young to Devin Booker and do an admirable job. He doesn’t bring really anything on offense, but was able to punish the smaller defenders opponents would put on him by using his strength on the offensive boards. Look for this dog to be back in Milwaukee next season.
