Milwaukee Brewers: 4 realistic trade targets ahead of 2021 trade deadline
2. Carlos Santana, Catcher/First Baseman, Kansas City Royals
With Keston Hiura continuing to struggle mightily at the plate–he’s only hitting .167 with a .261 on-base percentage–Milwaukee desperately needs to find a quality first baseman to insert into their lineup. Maybe Travis Shaw could play some first if/when he returns later this season, but that’s a big gamble to take considering all the unknowns surrounding his health.
It’s probably time to drop the catcher label from Carlos Santana, as he’s officially been a first baseman for years now (85 of his 92 games have come at first this year with the other seven coming as the DH).
Santana would give the Brewers an immediate upgrade at the position and would be a huge acquisition for Milwaukee. He’s hitting .242 with a .362 on-base percentage this year. He also adds some pop with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs. As a switch-hitter, he’d love the hitter-friendly American Family Field that could provide him with even more of an offensive boost.
